Hello again Quincy,
Yesterday you started in the classrom; I hope it went with at least some ease and lots of connection.
I wish I knew of some online resources for NVC and classroom stuff. I presume some exist but I have not yet been able to find them.
I recommend Sura Hart's book Compassionate Classroom. It is widely available for purchase online.
See a few words from Sura here: http://insideawarenessblog.wordpress.com/tag/sura-hart/

Hello Quincy, This site does definitely work. It is disappointing it is not being used more; that is our dream that it becomes a very useful resource for parents, teachers, children, and others interested in growing NVC for children.
Are you interested in working on some material sequel to the book and games book?
6  Connect with Giraffes / Connect with Giraffes / Re: Exercises to connect with children on: July 16, 2011, 11:07:31 PM
This exercise (from J. Donnoghue's Inner Empathy) is suggested not for use with children directly, but rather to grow/heal one's ability for giving "unconditional love", thereby enhancing connection with children:

Are you willing to go back to a time and context when this part (bk: i think this refers to the part that is judgmental/with-holding) was active, try and recall as many details as possible and experientially connect with the part, i.e. emotionally connect with the part?

This part that wants to love in a conditional way, are you willing to welcome it? Can you stay with that part that wants to love conditionally and allow the feelings? Can you ask it what it wants you to know?

Are you noticing strong feelings or judgements about the part that wants to love conditionally, that could be another part emerging and wanting to be heard. Are you willing to check in with this 'new' part and see what it is feeling and needing, what judgements it holds?

I enjoy reading blogs by parents. Well, often I do; sometimes what is written leaves me a little sad, wanting more connection and respect for children. Here is an entry from a parent about using NVC http://theparentingpit.com/2010/08/30/back-to-the-books/

Hello David,

It sounds like you, by writing a letter, treated yourself to connection and hope around  contribution to another? That you are enjoying the anticipation of how the letter will be sweet for your friend? Do you enjoy the connection that comes from writing and receiving letters? Do you notice your need to matter sweetly fed when you get a letter, and you are looking forward to that for your friend?

Thank you for sharing.

Hello all,
Here is a little bit about me:
My biggest motivator in life is my desire to make life sweeter for children; I really want to nurture and have more hope. 3 decades ago I studied both education and psychology toward that end. Since then I have done lots of volunteering for youth programs, public schools, individuals, and now with and at NVC retreats. My goal is to help children retain, or regain as early in life as possible, their innate empathic abilities; it is my belief this will help individual youth immediately, and our world over time.
Please, introduce yourself and your dreams.
Thank you.

Hello dear David,

Thank you for sharing your gratitude for trust and connection. I love to read how folks are enjoying the gifts of compassionate communication: how the sweet connection that results is delicious. This gives me hope and energy to keep up my efforts to share NVC with others.

Hello dear JP,

Were you disappointed when you did not know that you were joined (or even seen) celebrating what Andrea wrote about Giraffe Juice?  Did you want companionship in that celebration?

When you jumped out of your chair in celebration, were your needs for contribution, appreciation, and hope delightfully fed?

We received this sweet response from Hilary in Bern Switzerland:

I have been experimenting with nvc, restorative circles and some other approaches with my two children for the last seven years. Seeing how deep our connections are and how my children have the vocabulary and process to resolve their issues, gives me hope for the future. I am also sharing these approaches with children in our virtues club. A club I  set up to bring children together to explore their positive qualities and learn how to put them to use. And now I am so excited to be returning to work as a social care worker where I can bring all this to young people who have lived through difficult situations which have often resulted in them using challenging strategies to try to get their needs met. I feel so grateful to have been able to benefit from the work of others who developed, experienced and shared nvc. Now thanks to giraffe juice I have a great, easy to use tool to help children explore nvc for themselves. It gives them a greater  understanding of what I have been trying to model and teach.
My son has a special talent, like marvel, he can wiggle his ears! So he enjoys trying to hear needs while wiggling his ears!
